The annual Catch Your Breath® Conference brings together medical professionals* along with lung disease patients and their families to explore key issues in women’s lung health and advancements in lung disease treatment and research.

Education Sessions:

Progress in Lung Cancer—Jyoti Patel, MD, Northwestern University
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Differentiate the differences between men and women with lung cancer that may impact the clinical approaches to women with lung disease
  • Identify the most important findings to the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in the past year, especially in women
  • Present characteristics of tumors and genetics that can be used to select therapy in women
Keynote Address— Speaker to be announced
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Describe future direction of federal and non-federal funding for basic science, clinical and translational lung disease research for women’s lung health
  • Report on recent developments in lung disease research, especially regarding women’s lung health
  • Describe future research directions in lung disease with an emphasis on understudied fields of research
Smoking Cessation Strategies for Women—Andrea King, PhD, University of Chicago
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Describe clinical aspects of nicotine addiction in women
  • Identify the motivating factors that may prevent women from quitting smoking
  • Recognize different approaches to smoking cessation targeting women

Physicians
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Chicago Medical Society and the Chicago Respiratory Society.  The Chicago Medical Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Chicago Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.25 category 1 credits towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Nurses
An application for approval of nursing contact hours has been submitted to the Illinois Nursing Association Approver Unit.

The Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago is an approved continuing education sponsor by the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.  2.25 continuing education hours of credit will be awarded upon completion of the seminar.
