Our Mission

Respiratory Health Association has been a local public health leader since 1906. At that time, tuberculosis was a prominent health threat in our community. As health practices and treatments, medicines, and environmental factors have evolved, so has RHA. Today we address asthma, COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control and air quality with a comprehensive approach. Find our people, see our funders, and review our milestones to learn more.

Mission Statement

Respiratory Health Association’s mission is to prevent lung disease, promote clean air and help people live better through education, research, and policy change.

Vision Statement

Healthy lungs and clean air for all.

Guiding Principles

Credibility

We practice evidence-based community health to achieve our mission.

Empowerment

We empower people living with respiratory disease and those who care about them.

Collaboration

We create strong working partnerships internally and externally.

Respiratory Health Association conducts many of its activities in concert with partners and coalitions at the local, state and national levels. This wide range of collaborations is fundamental to the success of our education, research and policy change initiatives.

RHA is a proud partner of the BREATHE AMERICA™ Alliance, a group of independent lung health organizations around the United States that collaborate on projects to advance lung health. For more information about the BREATHE AMERICA™ Alliance, please visit http://www.ggbreathe.org/breathe-america/.

Health Equity

We believe in a shared vision of health for all.

Innovation

We drive practical and visionary solutions to improve community health.

Respiratory Health Association is deeply grateful for the generosity of people, businesses and foundations across Chicagoland and beyond that support our work. Charitable gifts enable us to deliver a sustainable plan for local education, research, and policy change efforts to promote healthy lungs and clean air. Together with our supporters, RHA is addressing challenging issues today as we prepare to face new obstacles in the future. For more information about making a gift to RHA, visit our Donate page.

As an association, individuals who make a contribution to RHA of $25 or more are considered members for the calendar year in which the donation is made, or the following year if gifts are received in November or December. Members receive RHA’s monthly e-news and an invitation to attend our annual membership meeting.
