One-Day, Comprehensive Training

Designed for health educators, community health workers, social workers and other health professionals, the Courage to Quit® Leader Training will prepare you to facilitate group and/or one-on-one programs to assist people who are interested in quitting smoking.

You’ll learn about:

  • Evidence-based tobacco treatment
  • Nicotine addiction
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Cessation medications
  • Program planning and implementation
  • Facilitation skills

Research shows that on average it can take over six attempts before a smoker successfully quits for good. As a Courage to Quit® Leader, you’ll work collaboratively with individuals to build on past attempts, create confidence, and develop skills and readiness. After completing the program, participants report higher-than-average cigarette use reduction and quit rates.

The Courage to Quit® program is available in multiple formats with flexible content. You will be able to customize delivery for individuals or participant groups in health centers, community settings and/or workplaces.

All trainings are held at Respiratory Health Association’s offices, located at 1440 W. Washington Blvd in Chicago’s West Loop. Easily accessible from both Interstate 90 (Kennedy Expressway) and Interstate 290 (Eisenhower Expressway), RHA offers free onsite parking to training participants.

Trainings are typically scheduled from 8:30 a.m – 3:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Training materials and continuing education credits are also included in the cost.

Upon completion of the training, Courage to Quit leaders will sign a program leader agreement.
